To Become A Homestay Family (Vancouver)

Hosting an international student is an enriching experience and a chance to make friends for life.  A TOA homestay family will welcome the student into their home and include them in their daily life.  Providing support and encouragement, the host will assist the student adjust to a new way of life in Canada. The students are excited to come to Canada and look forward to spending time with their Canadian family.

The first step to becoming a host family is to review the agreement and complete the homestay application. Please refer to the Application Procedure for more details. At T. Otani & Associates we strive to make the best possible match, by taking the students' requests and the family profile into consideration.

* Weekend High School Homestay *

We are currently looking for caring host families who are able to host a 2 day 3 night program for 2 high school boys during the Easter Holiday weekend March 22-24, 2008.

  • English must be the first language
  • Able to host two male students, with one bed per student
  • Pick up/Drop off in North Vancouver
  • 3 meals per day
  • No other Japanese student in household
  • Spend time doing activities with students introducing Vancouver and Canadian culture

Basic Requirements to Host a Student

To become a TOA host family, we look for a friendly, warm and welcoming family with a clean and tidy home.   (We provide homestay mainly for Japanese students)

The family will agree to provide the following:

  • English must be the first language
  • Airport pick-up and drop off
  • 3 meals per day
  • Private bedroom with adequate lighting, desk, closet/dresser, and a window
  • No other Japanese student in the household
  • Family must be in the home for the duration of the homestay period

Step 1: Send a signed copy of the homestay agreement and application form (PDF) / (Word)
Step 2: The coordinator will review your application

Step 3: If successful and we require new host families, the homestay coordinator will contact you for an interview at your home.
 
Step 4: To complete the application you will be asked to provide a Criminal Record Check for the adult members in your home.

Please understand that the demand for homestay families in various locations will depend on the time of year.
