To Become A Host Family

Hosting an international student is an enriching experience and a chance to make friends for life. `
A CPCI homestay family will welcome the student into their home and include them in their daily life.  Providing support and encouragement, the host will assist the student adjust to a new way of life in Canada.
Our students are generally Japanese youth who come to Victoria to learn about the language and culture. The students are excited to come to Canada and look forward to spending time with their Canadian family.
At Canada Pacific College International we strive to make the best possible match, by taking the student’s requests and the family profile into consideration.

What is CPCI?

“Canada Pacific College International”. We provide educational and homestay programs for Japanese students here in Victoria, that we call “Short –Term Hosting”. These programs are from a few days to 4 weeks in length throughout the year. Their ages range from Jr. High School to University students. Most of the programs ask host families to provide students with transportation during their stay.

What is the difference between “Single Placement” and “Double Placement”?

1-“Single Placement” is one student per family.

2-“Double Placement” is two students per family from the same program. They may share a room but you must provide two separate beds. (bunk beds or cots are acceptable but a foamy or air mattress on the floor is not acceptable.) You may provide two rooms with a bed in each room for both of them.

What is the process to become a host family?

1-Simply read the requirements list and if you agree with it, fill in the application form and send it to CPCI by mail. (Forms have to be mailed, we do not accept e-mail for this.)

2-Upon approving your application, we will contact you to make an appointment for a home visit.

3-Once approved, we will send you a registration form for each program whenever we have hosting situations. Each program is different and we inform you of the requirements, age and length of the stay. You may select the programs that suits you.

Can I use my kid’s room for the students?

Yes. For Short-Term programs this is a real possibility. You need to be able to provide privacy for the visiting students, so if you are able to make a comfortable arrangement for yourself and your family, this is an acceptable solution. Students shouldn’t share a room with your children or another international student.

What are the benefits of a program like this for me and my family?

There are many! You and your family will have an opportunity to share your Canadian culture with the visiting students and you will have an opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture. Visiting students are very excited about coming to Victoria and you will experience this with them. Many homestay families continue to communicate by mail or e-mail with their students long after the program ends.

Remuneration is different for each program and we will always inform you when we ask you about your availability. (Usually it is between $30 and $60 per night per student depending on the requirements and length of the stay.)
